Domestic Priorities, where do our kids fit in?

The budget is about $2.7 trillion. Try counting that high at a rate of 2 million per hour and report back in 10, 000 years. Here are some highlights. VERY BRIEF excerpts from the Washington Post.

Y 2007 Budget Proposal: Agency-by-Agency Breakdown

The $2.77 trillion budget plan emphasizes spending on the country’s fight against terrorism, while deeply cutting domestic programs. 141 domestic programs will be reduced.

The growth in defense spending has slowed compared with earlier this decade, suggesting the defense buildup that began in 1999 and accelerated in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks is winding down.

Department of Education. The $63 billion budget eliminates 42 programs — including parent-resource centers, vocational programs and drug-free schools.

Department of Energy. The department budget is essentially flat. The budget adds money to research some alternative fuel technology. Environmental groups said the funding increases are insufficient.

Department of Health & Human Services. Bush is requesting a $58 billion increase for Health and Human Services, bringing total budget authority to $698 billion.

Two mandatory programs — Medicare and Medicaid — consume 84 percent of the HHS budget. The administration aims to squeeze $36 billion out of Medicare over the next five years, by cutting hospital payments, establishing competitive bidding for lab services and increasing premiums.

Department of Homeland Security. The president proposes increasing the Department of Homeland Security’s budget of $31 billion for fiscal 2007, by $177 million. Homeland Security would spend $869 million to add 1,500 border patrol agents and 6,700 detention bed spaces. Congress requires adding 2,000 agents per year.

Department of Interior. This department would face a nearly 3 percent cut. $100 million would be cut from the current national parks budget, putting funding for national parks at $2.16 billion. The programs that would lose the most money include land acquisition, construction and maintenance.

Department of Justice. The administration wants to cut department spending by $1.5 billion for a total of $19.5 billion.

A 6 year old shoots his schoolmate. First-grader? carries a gun to school in Mount Morris, Michigan and kills his schoolmate? Conyers, Georgia 6 injured. The Columbine high school massacre Littleton, Colorado 15 Killed 24 wounded

Let us examine a fact sheet about Colorado gun law :-

State of Colorado Firearm Laws

* No licensing or registration requirements related to firearm purchase or possession.

* No waiting period for purchase of handguns, shotguns, or rifles.

* Handgun possession by persons less than 18 years of age is a misdemeanor. Exemptions from the prohibition on handgun possession by persons less than 18 years of age exist for attendance at a hunter's or firearms safety course, target practice at a shooting range, and other similar activities.

* It is a felony for any person to knowingly or recklessly provide a handgun to any person less than 18 years of age.

* It is a felony for any parent or guardian to knowingly or recklessly provide a handgun to a juvenile when that parent is aware that a substantial risk exists that such juvenile will use the handgun to commit a felony. Any parent aware of such a risk has a duty to make reasonable efforts to prevent the commission of the offense.

* There are no age restrictions related to possession of rifles or shotguns.

Will our children and society be more protected now that our Congress has authorized an even larger military budget?

No, actually they need to be shot. Would be more fitting. And slightly ironic.

Take it on the bright side: more juvenile public accustomed with guns from as early as it gets, more better trained soldiers will they make in the Great Fourth Reich Army. And the US can better fight their Terror War... sorry, War Against Terror.

Here in the USA we say our kids are our first priority, but that is a lie. All one has to do is look at how much money we spend on schooling to see that lie for what it is.

All so very sad. I have been shoting since i was 13 years old(hunting animals, not classmates). but yes America is gun CRAZY. In my state I can only own a riffle but i got two more years till I can buy a handgun( its 21 here)

I have a theroy though about the whole brainwashing for the "war on humanity". The government is using video games to condition us to use US weaponary when we come of age. About 2-3 years ago, I went to a community college campus, to take some dual credit courses and i was approached the a recruiter. he got me to sit down and listen to his lovely lies, and big cash bonuses, I told him i was 16 so he told me to come back when i was 17 with my parents approval. he gave me a copy though of the US army game, which was cool until, i went home, installed it and found that the game was set in a un-named middle eatsern country, and the objective was to kill Terrorists all of whom looked like Arabs, none who looked like the guys from the Oklahoma bombing. i was sick with disgust. We where being protrayed in the game as the bad guys, he gave me the game to train to kill my own people so after a years practice my mom could sign a peice of paper and send me to Iraq to do what the game conditioned me to do. Ofcourse now the games are a dime a Billion. and those un-named countries have nmes like Iraq, Iran, lebonan, yes they have games about freeing "iranians". Their are games where the mission is to bombard Libya, and games where we go in lebonan and hunt down those evil lebonese people. The characters are called "Muslim Terrorists". Some games refer to them as arab terrorists, and I think the new socom navy Seals calls the enemy Islamofacist, they also added missions i chechnya, so people wont think the game is racist, yes to america terroist Muslims come in all colours and shades even white. They also have a billion coming out about a imagenary war with China. New Image new enemy new people, same racist, bigoted brainwashing tactics.

As far as domestic priorities.

Twosert the Government is too busy trying to stop non-white immigration on the southern boarder.

Gun regulation.lol. Thats not a problem. We got to get those illegals out thats the priority according to the government.

We have to have huge man hunts for a group of 4 Egyptian college students who skiped class, thats what the FBI does. I dont know if you heard about that but i am pretty sure if 4 german students came to study in America and they skipped class the FBI and state and Local Police would put their pictures on TV, and have a huge Nationwide manhunt to find them too. oh wait no they wouldnt.

Mr. Smarterthanyou said...

Australia just did a study, and their gun control had NO effect on crime.

School shootings happen because liberals make it hard to discipline kids, liberals in the news glorify the killers, and liberals push women to work and kids into daycare.

This has nothing to do with the military budget.

Mr. Smarterthanyou said...

agurzil,

When we have to start worrying about white germans attacking us, we will profile them.

Meanwhile, on planet reality, Muslims skipping out on visas have been a bit of a problem for us, right?
